Education Overview
- Educational Modules
A
primary mission of the NHLBI and the Southwestern PGA is make the
resources, data and protocols developed in the PGAs useful for the
general research community. The Southwestern PGA is doing this through
a variety of formats:
Lab courses on GENE BUILDING and GENE IMMUNIZATION:
We (S.A. Johnston and R. Chambers) are periodically offering a 2-day
lab course on how to chemically synthesize genes and how to do genetic
immunization to raise antibodies. The lab courses are currently
held at Southwestern but can be conducted off-site. The manual for
the course and associated slide show are posted on the web-site.
Live
Tutorials: We are currently offering Web X based tutorials
on the Computational Programs developed at the Southwestern PGA
(H. Garner) and on how to analyze Polymorphisms in Populations (J.
Cohen). Slide shows with the relevant material for both courses
are also available on the web and can be viewed before live participation
in the Web X class. These tutorials are also presented at meetings.
Web Slide Tutorials: Powerpoint presentations on
Computer Programs, SNP analysis in populations and antibody production/gene
building are posted on our educational site and regularly updated.

Future
Offerings
We will update our educational offerings as the resources and needs
of the research community change. New programs planned are:
- CD
available on the techniques associated with genetic immunization
- Tutorial
on Biosignatures
Please
contact us with
any questions or requests We can potentially arrange for tutorials
or lab courses to be conducted at meetings or on other campuses.
